A number of things are the cause of the down market that everyone is experiencing right now. As we get closer to fall. (even though it may not feel like it) the price on unweaned calves always takes a step back in comparison to a hard weaned calf simply due to projected health issues. With more bawling calves and less weaned calves coming to market at the moment the shift can be extreme in certain scenarios. This up-and-coming reopening of the border is also playing a role in the softening of the market in fear of the upswing in numbers. With all this being said, the market is still very good compared to past years.
